I think it's up to you as to what you want to say. It would be nice to see an employer be understanding and move onto the next question as to why you are an excellent fit for the company.:-)
Most people cannot afford a 6 month hiatus, so they will assume it is involuntary. Maybe try a more acceptable explanation but I’m not sure what is one. Gaps are tough to navigate. It is easier to find a job when you have a job. Because otherwise one has a gap and that is a conversation ender.
Try 4 years. Career is over.
Traveling is a legitimate reason to quit. Did you take videos and photos for social media? Maybe tey to spin that part? I don't understand how HR views gaps as a bad thing. You come back totally refreshed and are teachable. Keep looking, you'll find something.
Try to be brief about the hiatus/gap and then move on to speaking on the skills you have and why you’re a good fit for this job.
