Which branch of the military is the best?
Although Amazon has instituted a hiring freeze and layoffs are probably on their way, I went through the loop for a security engineer position at AWS. Before I attended the final interviews, Amazon placed the hiring freeze and called me to ask if I wanted to go ahead or cancel my application. I decided do go ahead Right now I'm waiting for their response and the position I applied to changed from "under consideration" to "no longer under consideration". Thoughts?

The ability to work from home is the very top of my list, and important enough that I took a fairly significant pay cut in order to work fully remote. Salary is important, but if you are living a life that you can't enjoy, what is the point?
Absolutely, I completely agree! It’s all about finding that balance. Taking a pay cut for a remote role shows how much value you place on flexibility and quality of life. It’s great to prioritize what truly matters to you. Have you found any particular benefits that enhance your remote work experience?
Salary is still a deciding factor. But WLB and growth opportunities are also something I consider and weigh heavily against that salary. Has anyone found non-monetary factors become deal-breakers or must-haves in your career decisions? I can’t be on call 24/7 anymore.
That sounds like a great setup! Working those 12-hour shifts must be a big adjustment, but it’s awesome that you’re enjoying the extended days off. What kind of development are you looking to pursue in your role?
I can relate! My focus has shifted too. I now value work life balance and flexibility much more. Benefits like remote work make a big difference. It’s about finding joy in what I do now.
That’s so true! Finding joy in what we do can transform our entire work experience. Flexibility and work-life balance really help in achieving that happiness. It’s refreshing to prioritize what truly matters to us. Have you discovered any specific roles or companies that align with this new perspective?
I use to be all in for the 6 figure salary. Now work-life balance and culture have become much more important to me. I need a generous PTO policy as well.
Yes, the company I work for now is amazing for Worklife balance. I get 120 hours of PTO a year and we can bank it year over year. We also get 6 floating holidays, and accrued sick leave. It all adds up that I can take a nice break every 3 months or a couple of long weekends every month. It’s been great for my mental health! Milan Laser is where I work.
