Sometimes I just kill them with kindness. The more you talk down to me the more I'll be sugary sweet until you're apologizing to me. Kind of passive aggressive but it works most of the time, especially with people who are a bit drunk on their power.
If it gets bad enough, I'll call them out. "There's no need to be rude/condescending. We're both professionals here and should be treating one another with respect." Usually that's enough to put them in their place.
Whoa. I think if they're doing it often, they must've gotten used to it already. Do call them out once they do to get their attention. Poeple who are already rude don't usually listen nor participate well when pulled aside even if that's the most polite would can get. A firm "Hey. Don't talk to me like that" is enough to get the lesson across.
I do the same! Kill them with kindness and show them you know your stuff!
Pull them aside and speak firmly on how you are feeling they’ll shut up real quick. Being direct is the best way by pulling them aside they don’t get embarrassed
I must be petty because I get passive-aggressive in return. I'm sure one of these days they'll be needing my assistance and I might not be as responsive. Not for the same of anybody's patient though, but little things can teach big lessons.
Wow, I am either very petty or very Southern haha. I empty their staplers daily. I horde those trashy pt-only pens (you know them) when they’re nearly out of ink, and I slowly replace all their nice fancy pens with the trash ones (not personal paid-for pens, just the nice ones the office supplies). The fancy pens are all placed in the crack between the desk and wall. 1 rude comment = 1 pen changed out. On days they mange to be a reasonable professional and not rude, all their staples stay put as do the pens.
