I am experiencing the opposite scenario, many employers have wasted my time by interviewing me with no intention of hiring me. My age combined with my wide range of experience and education makes me unhirable for a majority of jobs, because the employer would choose a low skilled low experience younger candidate over me. Ageism is a real barrier to obtaining employment that nobody is addressing right now.
Yeah, I downplay my degrees in my resumes because they've been more a hindrance than a help in most cases. I just want a job that will let me fix my house, pay the bills and taxes, and put some in savings. And if they're willing to train, I'm willing to learn. Wish I'd gone to welding school instead of college for a teaching degree, but none of us thought about that because I was a woman. I'm a tomboy, though, and would LOVE to have learned plumbing, electrical, welding, etc. in my 20s (sigh).
Sameeee i guess volunteering. But i need money
That’s frustrating. I wonder if there are any agencies that could help you find some work. It’s not ideal, but it would at least be something.
You kinda have to start with the least desirable jobs. Usually fast food will take on people without experience. If you’re insistent on retail, you might try gas stations or warehouses.
Look for any job specifying "will train' or "no experience necessary." And apply to some of the jobs anyway if you're maybe a few months off the experience they want you to have. The "qualifications" more often than not are wish-lists or just old requirements copy-pasted to a new post that is invalid, but HR didn't bother to get the input from the department they're supposedly helping to staff. I think all job requirements should go through the department supervisors before publication to get better candidate matches. Some tech and skills go obsolete, after all, or are not as important as they used to be.
