Any tips for transitioning from Senior Auditor to Financial controller of a small to medium sized business? Just accepted a position and seeing how I can prepare for the transition.

I currently work in a Chief Internal Auditor role. I want to get a certification focused on IT audit both for knowledge, gaining credibility with my stakeholders in the IT audit space, and for when I look for a new role. I don’t have / won’t be able to get sufficient IT audit experience for the CISA designation at this stage. What designations, courses, or other options would you suggest?

I’m interviewing for an accounting role, and they’ve asked for a writing sample… As an auditor, any accounting memos I have written will have confidential client information, and these memos have gone through levels of review/edits, so aren’t necessarily my own work anyways. What do you suggest i provide?

I have two years of internal audit experience in a 500 company and I am relocating to a financial analyst role within the company. However, I think I still need the public accounting experience in big4 to get a long-term competency. I want to apply big 4 staff auditor after I pass the rest two CPA exams. I know I can’t get the experienced auditor position since I don’t have public accounting experience. I had my master in accounting. Will I be qualified for the entry level auditor in big4?

Was a corporate analyst and recently accepted a job as an auditor for the state/government. Can this role have any complications if in the future I try to get back in the private sector or corporate finance?

Senior finishing up my fourth busy season. Accepted a job as a senior internal auditor. Now I am second guessing my decision and wonder if I should stick it out for manager promotion (next summer) and then have better exit opportunities. Any advice? Would you jump ship or stick it out? Looking to make a move into this sector. Currently an Auditor who serves VC/PE companies, but am burnt out of audit life.

I’ve been looking into FDD at other Big 4 firms, but it seems people have similar complaints. Higher pay certainly sounds nice though..

Also seems that A&M is a desire able exit for people. Is anyone able to provide further insights on what to expect in FDD at Big 4, versus a similar role at A&M?

Would it be difficult to get a job in IA if most of my experience has been auditing private non-404 asset mgmt funds? I really enjoy process walkthroughs when I have them though. Also, does title matter that much in IA? I’m a manager now, but based on job descriptions it looks like I might have to go for a senior auditor role because audit manager roles generally call for 8+ years from what I’m seeing. Can title be negotiated?

What are my exit opportunities for Risk Advisory? I have all public clients and am essentially an IT Auditor, weird thing is I actually love what I do. I just want to do it for a company, get off at 5, and no travel. Also, when should I be starting to look for exit opportunities? I only have one year under my belt, currently a Consultant 2.
