I was out of school today for professional development but was told the students were horrendous in our building. With new admin, new dean, new counselor, and many new teachers, the kids are a mess right now and really pushing the line. They were pretty good the first 7days or so, but now ...... whew! How is behavior in your school this year?

For sure! I am not a teacher who goes off on rants, but I did today! The 6th graders were in the hallway, shoving, poking each other with pencils, shuffling, etc. When they walked into my room, I kind of startled them because my demeanor is usually pretty calm. It is out of hand.

I guess my little rant was helpful. That class has been much better. There are still a few stragglers, but at least some of them are focusing in.

So far so good OP, I am so sorry that your year has been rough so far. We have a really good gorup this year so it has been good so far but who knows if it will stay that way. I am sure there will be some rough days to come and I do not look forward to those.

The first two weeks, our 6th Graders were pretty good, our 7th graders have been rotten, and many of the 8th Grades were passive-aggressive. Fortunately, my worst class of 8th graders has students who are House leaders, athletes, and dance teams. I just had to mention sending emails or talking to their leaders and some of the meanness stopped. Hopefully, after my discussion with the 6th grade, they will be better. The 7th graders-well... I'm at a loss.

Conversation Starter

Lyft driver delayed picking me up 30 min, resulting in me canceling my ride and asking hotel to call me a “yellow taxi” to get to the airport because it was 5am and all ubers/lyfts were 15 min. Specifically said yellow. Hotel calls me a private lux SUV and the driver got out of the car to handshake the man who called and said hi (honestly money couldve been passed). I then get hit with a $180 ride. Marriott website says taxi should be $65. Should I complain or let it go?
