Any work or use to work at Chartwells K12
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

You sound like you have a lot of selling points, previous experience, upcoming completed MBA, led with all of that during the negotiations. I’d also think if they just absolutely cannot offer any more try to see what they can offer, perks, benefits, etc.
You can absolutely negotiate with confidence, even when the posted range is lower than your last salary. I would focus your ask on your future value vs salary. You’ve got almost 10 years of experience at a medical university plus an MBA almost completed. You're someone who can step in with minimal ramp-up and bring strategic thinking to the role.
Bring in a Manila envelope with proof of previous successes, employee of months, maybe have a previous boss write a letter of recommendation?! You coming with a ton of experience which means less work and training for them. Ask them, "Can we negotiate the pay a little due to my level of experience?!"
I say always negotiate because the worst they can say is no. You have tons of experience and are already taking a pay cut. If they want you bad enough they will pay you to get you. Confidently ask for whatever it is you want and see what they say.
