Why would it be crazy? Follow your heart
I’ve been doing family law for almost a decade. Pros: Lots of business and fairly recession-proof, can offer a better work-life balance, you get lots of litigation experience in an environment that is not as strict about deadlines/procedural roles. Cons: Emotionally draining, clients will take advantage if you give them any way to, can definitely lead to burnout. But you already have experience in another area of law so you could pivot back if you burn out on family law.
Never too late or crazy to pivot!
Has anyone made this pivot before?
I think that's smart, OP. Get trained on the substantive law, procedures and processes (because it's very different from a big law firm), and once you get an understanding of everything it takes to run that kind of practice, then make the jump to your own thing.
