As a partner at one here is my take:
-Fenwick is academic and takes the job seriously. Generally have a strong reputation. Not sure what’s up lately but lots of exits. NY office is meh.
-WSGR is big and cliquey. Little bit of an identity crisis and your experience will vary significantly based on your group. NY office is meh.
-Cooley has a great culture on its face but if you scratch below the surface it’s got a lot of the same problems as any generic biglaw firm (very political, you may not be in control of your fate). Strong NY office.
-Gunderson is more niche. Less focused on sophisticated work and more focused on bro-ing out with tech clients. Not as profitable, seems they are at an impasse. Strong NY office.
I think any of them are good for going in house. I would think more about your specialty within the firm. I think if you get into any of these firms you will have doors open to you for good in house gigs as long as you cultivate the right skillset. Some firms may steer more towards certain options though (eg, Cooley for big tech or Gunderson for working at a fund)
