No my workplace is not unionized nor have I ever been part of a union. I think since I have never been part of one I don't really know what I am missing out on. But I have often wondered if it is better to be part of a union or not.
No
Yup!
But haven't used it and frankly not sure how much unions really do for us...
Chief
Yes it is, no I'm not
I am! My organization wouldn’t pay what they pay or offer the benifits that I have if it wasn’t negociated in out union contract. And when management tries to do things they shouldn’t, it gives another route to push back and have a voice. Essentially it allows us to hold our managment and organization accountable.
And when i say management trying to do things they shouldn’t, i mean things like accusing an employee of cheating at doing their job with no evidence or proof. Just an accusation and then sending said employee and mental health link by email when they responded that what just happened was not ok. I mean things like giving a disciplinary occurence when an employee’s mother passed and they wanted to take a bearevement day without giving a 24 hr notice. Things that aren’t ethical and are flat out dirty.
Management, if you follow the contract rules, and don’t do unprofessional outlandish things like said above, you’ll be fine. When we had management that respected employees as humans, we never once had to get the union or HR involved. And your employees want to work harder and are more dedicated to you and the department.
