The company career coach could have an ulterior motive as they work for the company and not for you. If your company supports growth and actually wants people in your position to succeed, they may be useful. If your position is usually churned, they will never be helpful, and the fact that you have reached out multiple times, could be factoring against you. Tread carefully.

Great point made here. Companies don’t usually have “career coaches” so it is a little odd. Mentors forsure
Number one is really getting clear about what you want to do in your career and where you want to go in the next year, five years, and 10 years
Agree with SD1, go into those sessions with a clear idea of what you want out of them. I had an idea of what position I wanted to move into and just discussed the path to that. Some specific mentors are better than others, too.

Yea it really comes down to your goals and what drives you. Focusing on areas to improve or areas that your mentor may have experience in is always good.

I've had mentors in our official "mentorship program" at work that have been useless and ones that have been useful. The ones that I have found useless are the ones that only signed up because it checks off one of their KPI requirements or to make their resume look better. The ones that I have had found useful were the ones who are there to help you, even if it's not completely beneficial to their team or outputs. Those are the ones I still schedule regular check-ins with to chat and catch up.
