Thoughts on the Minneapolis Public Schools bargaining contract that includes layoff protection for POC staff that would override the seniority system? In summary, the contract states that if layoffs/reductions in staff need to occur, non-POC (white staff) will be cut first, regardless of seniority, retaining staff POC.

How long did it take for you to find an exit? 1YOE and my company (boutique) is struggling, so I’m looking to leave ASAP, and getting worried I won’t find something before our next round of layoffs

Layoffs at MAL?

Are green card holders eligible for unemployment benefits? Do you need to pay any unemployment insurance while working in order to be eligible for those benefits when you’re laid off?

People realize the recession is only just starting right? So far we have only had a few rate rises, with many more to come. Stocks are down a little, but only just barely into bear territory. Major companies will be reporting large losses soon, but that hasn't happened yet, and the market will react to that.

No major companies have begun large layoffs yet, either, so far we are only seeing a few minor hiring freezes. And of course we haven't seen bankruptcies yet, but they are surely coming.

Any of the big 4/5 announce layoffs yet?

Is it normal for a discipline lead to have direct reports? My VP just praised my performance and asked me to become a manager for a new hire (which I'm more than happy to do), but there's no additional compensation for my new managerial responsibilities, and it seems odd that I would be asked to do this when we have a director and an assistant director on my team who are both technically in the management layer yet who do not have direct reports themselves.

What does a typical tax senior at Deloitte make in NYC?

I had a review and came out feeling terrible. September was pretty much back on track but April and May I billed ~half, and while things have picked up there is really no way that I’ll hit my target. They focused so much on hours while only referring to actual feedback as almost anaside (it was good) such that I couldn’t even feel good about that. I’ve been trying everything I can to get work and my stress is through the roof. Any advice or words of wisdom? I’m feeling paralyzingly anxious.
