They help with drafting responses/objections, but the associates ultimately are responsible for finishing and finalizing them.
Yes. I also draft and it’s not cookie cutter
Same, and then the atty revises as needed.
At my prior firm, if a paralegal had bandwidth, we’d have them start the responses and meet with the client to get info for the first draft, then an associate would revise and finalize. At my new firm it’s all associate drafted.
I concur; as a certified sr paralegal, I always drafted, interviewed clients, and did the initial response & would send the ROG or RPD to the attorney/associate to flesh out before I proofread & tightened up the doc before submittal to OC
My ID firm doesn’t have any paralegals, so associates have to do it all.
I agree with your rationale. It is important for a new attorney or someone new to that practice area. However, I am a mid-level, so at this point I have a grasp of the things you mentioned. I have no problem doing it, but there are only so many hours in the day, and it would be nice to delegate paralegal type work so I can focus on the things only attorneys can do.
I’m a paralegal and I answer all discovery in our cases

Yes
Paralegals and some legal assistants.
I do! I always take the first run through before having the attorney review.
I draft initial shorthand responses especially for contention interrogatories and RFAs. I tell my paralegal that if I get something wrong or I misunderstand a policy then correct me.
As a paralegal, I did all discovery requests and responses from start to finish.
As an associate, I insert some objections but mostly just put “[Please provide this information]” and send it to my partner who reviews and contacts clients for responses, and then he sends it back to me to “finalize” based on whatever the client chooses to put into the document.
