Last working day of the year, many employees marked sick leave. Now I’m unsure how to handle office operations on Monday. Should management plan backup staffing, allow flexible shifts, or approve work-from-home? How do you manage sudden absences without affecting deadlines, morale, and fairness? Looking for practical ideas and experiences from leaders and teammates. Especially during holidays and year-end pressure periods in busy offices.

They definitely should have planned some backup staffing. I feel like people always call out during the holidays. It is good to already be prepared for that.

Its very tough to do that

We always do the best we can with the resources we have. I know that sounds a bit reductionist, but that's really all you can do. I also think it's important to remember that a lot of companies are dealing with a skeleton crew during the week between Christmas and New Year's and so that can also impact operations and productivity.

I think this common problem of every workplace

There should always be backup just in case!

It’s difficult but nobody wants to do extra work in this days

If absolutely required to have coverage, then it should’ve been planned ahead of time. Thankfully for my team, it’s not absolutely necessary, so it’s relatively easy for most team members to take the same time off around the holidays

Heya, looking to get an entry level consulting/ finance role with ~3 YOE at APAC and an UG from a top English uni (think oxbridge, LSE, etc).

All I get from non-regional bowls are “London is fucked, brexit, Covid , companies are cutting people off rather than hiring blah blah”; but how is it actually looking for the people who are actually in the game? I have a uk passport btw so visa is not an issue

I have an offer and want to negotiate

1. London base salary but I have to absorb all the expenses (train + stay)
I am thinking to negotiate to

2. home base salary and have my expenses paid for

I know that's depends on the amount I have to travel (and potentially stay) but at the moment this is unknown. Past 8 months was just twice a month + 2 nights stay.

The only thing I know is it won't be every week, the return trian ticket is about £80-100, depends I could plan ahead.

Currently a Wealth Advisor for Citi but I honestly hate it here with a passion it’s the worst company I’ve ever worked for in my life and I’ve been in Wealth Management in the banking channel for over a decade. I’m look to enter another area of Finance at this point instead of starting over somewhere else from scratch, but not sure what direction to go. Interested in Investment Banking or M&A.
