Please don’t take a slot others are desperate for - it won’t impact you ever, but it will matter to others.
It’s not a great move, if you know the promotion salary increase (~15% above existing or levelled to bottom of next pay scale) just go. Once numbers are locked in in April it’s very hard to swap out when you get a resignation and impossible once tell day is done. Don’t take a spot you don’t want, I remember who does this and would not be inclined to accept a boomerang or hire them when I move on
If you look it from an ethical point of view, you should tell them you are leaving and don’t take the slot. Especially if you already have an offer and getting promoted is not changing anything for you. If you need the promotion to negotiate, then it’s another story, loads of people get promoted and then after a few months leave, as they can get better offers with new title or salary.
I think its a flex. Why would it be bad for optics?
On the flip side though, the promotion isnt going to help you either in any way as I think of it. Unless you're going to negotiate your offer on the basis of it.
Operative word here is ‘might’ but also leaving the company for new opportunities you should do on your timetable not the promotion timetable you don’t owe Accenture anything
I think you’ve work hard for the slot whether you decide to stay or leave. It just so happens you got a better offer that you couldn’t refuse so it’s upto Accenture to match that offer and if they can’t then bye. If you ever come back then I think the hiring person should be mature enough to understand that financials are a big factor and if acn couldn’t match that’s their fault not to mention it’s a flex regarding your skills and ability to get a job in the market. If the tables were turned the other way around they would drop you without a thought.
Just using the word "optics" should automatically bar you from promotion, IMO. But why would you give a shit if you're leaving?
