sounds like you’re miserable that everyone is gaining recognition for making the school run 😂
I am not miserable at all.
Welcome to Education!!! Over 25 years experience reg and SPED… quoting Dr. Watson from UTC, “ things are a complex,”… but I’m not doing it for the public recognition or things of that nature anybody that knows me knows I’m a schoolteacher and they know how much I put into how much it means to me
Thank you. That makes sense.

I'm sorry your teacher appreciation week ended up being like that. While I feel that recognizing all staff efforts are important, it sounds like the teachers didn't get the attention they deserved.
They really didn’t.

I agree.
Our school is the same way over the past couple years. This year our principal sent out a message to our community saying to “drop off any and all teacher appreciation gifts to the front office and they’ll take care of the rest with drawings and games for our teachers.” I don’t like this……since they do include the librarian, admin secretary, nurse, etc as teachers, I feel that’s a bit dishonest to the parents who believe their gifts are going to classroom teachers. Also, I don’t EVER expect anything from any student, but if a parent or student wants to celebrate classroom teachers in general, and think bringing the gift up to put in for random drawings is just how it’s going to be done this year, that’s who it should go to. I’m super deflated.
That is how I feel.
Our school just puts the (whatever) appreciation week in the newsletter, encourages students to write thank you notes, then faculty and staff typically host our own potluck, where everyone is invited regardless of employee classification. Nobody gets anything from admin or the district - it's all in-house DIY.
I think if you performed a job such as lunch duty all year, you might want to be recognized too! I worked for a school where once a week I was put on breakfast duty- picking up trash and trays and wiping tables. And I was a teacher! It’s a thankless job so after that I made sure those staff felt just as appreciated as I was. I think anyone who works with kids should feel appreciated for their role.
I never thought of it that way
I think this is so sweet!! They could do a teacher appreciation week and also a staff appreciation week with these different days though.
