My husband is a VP of a small, locally owned business with about 120 employees. He has worked there for about 9 years. He is never really off, because many of his employees work the night shift so he takes calls in the middle of the night, early mornings, weekends, etc.
Last fall he was diagnosed with cancer. His treatment was scheduled to start in December through February. He has come out the other side with some lingering side effects which may or may not be permanent. Continuing in comments

They put a status call at 10 in the morning and expect to work throughout the day till 9PM with all the calls at night

If someone logs off at 8ish also. It is considered as early off. One the worst work life balance ever in UK supporting organisation.
