It does feel a bit ridiculous to hear about your goals for the next year. A lot of it, especially in healthcare, is just a way of establishing a record that can be reviewed at some point. Organizations want to show a "culture of continuous improvement," which can matter for accreditation. So having goals and surpassing them might be a meaningful data point when reviewed in a few years.
Fair point. I guess in the modern age we need to quantify and record everything. Sometimes it just really annoys me though!

Sometimes, annual review goals can feel more like a formality, and I also agree that recruiters do not really care about them, what matters most is your overall outcome and experience on the job.
Well said. And I guess if I'm surpassing goals I *might* get a bigger raise but that's never a guarantee.
I always see the annual goal as a formality since it tends to change during the year anyways! 😂
