How does one tell their boss (owner of the company) that you are burnt out? The sheer volume of work is exhausting and I haven’t taken a true vacation as we are a small company so if something urgent comes to my email I feel like I must respond. I was given an additional title and more responsibilities last year as well but only a 3% raise for it.

It can be so difficult to recognise you’re burnt out but feel unable to raise with your manager (especially if you’re in a senior position).
I have left some suggestions below that might be worth exploring:

https://www.mind.org.uk/media/12144/mind-wellness-action-plan-remote-work.pdf - this is a template for 1:1s that you can fill out and schedule in a call with your manager to help to verbalise some of the concerns you have around workload / needing to take some annual leave to allow yourself to recuperate and rest. This may also include discussion around who will cover your work whilst away to give you the best chance of stepping away fully and switching off.

If your company offers support e.g. an employee assistance programme / mental health support, it may be beneficial to contact and see whether they can support with offloading some of the emotions that come with burnout. They may also be able to help guide you through setting and establishing boundaries as this can be challenging.

Some other options may include:
- Putting your working hours on your email signature / utilising an out of office during busier periods.
- Blocking out time in your calendar for breaks / focus time for tasks that are ongoing.
- Checking if your attendance at any scheduled meetings is crucial / if you can join for certain parts
- Consider the outlets you have outside of work for stress relief as this may support resilience in the long run

I hope there’s something within the above that helps

My dilemma… I am an injury adjuster at a carrier experiencing high inventory that’s barely manageable. A competitor offered a higher salary and manageable workload. BUT, I would like to get into underwriting. I applied for UW position w/ a different carrier and they’ve made an offer. It’s lower than my current salary and significantly lower than what I’d make by taking the first offer. Do I take the high salary and stay in claims or go for UW in hopes it will be best in long run?
