The swag could be better. I mean, how many umbrellas or mugs does one person need? Seriously, if higher salaries are off the table, as they usually are, creating a better workplace would be helpful. Just try to establish a reasonable work/life balance. And show some appreciation for one's efforts.

Amen! I too am over the cheap blue tooth speakers and scarves emblazoned with my work’s logo…
Flexibility is huge. I'm only in the office one day a week and I don't have any strictly set hours, which means I can sleep in when I want to sleep in as long as I don't have a meeting scheduled. It's worth the $20k+ I'm losing by staying. Also, working towards a mission I care about doesn't hurt.

Being able to make my own schdudle is 100 percent the only thing keeping me tied to my job right now…
Better benefits, real work-life balance, and actual growth opportunities go a long way. Even small things—like public recognition, flexible schedules, or professional development stipends—can make a big difference. If the pay isn’t there, at least make people feel like their work truly matters.. and respect their time!!
Pro
Professional development stipends is a great idea!
Pizza. Nah. More money is how people feel valued. But if your hobby means you have to under pay people for the work they do for you, at least let them WFH when they want, bring their dog / kid / llama to work, don't make any demands. Basically don't act like you're paying them what they're worth when you're not.
Pro
Not the llama, haha. What a great idea about more flexibility with bringing a pet/kid to work, would make life a lot easier during virtual learning days. What is your boss’ hobby? It’s giving golf and or collecting something stupid expensive like trainsets or drones….
More personal days/ sick time/ vacation days. Opportunities to be mentored; recognition shout outs; conversations about professional development; tuition reimbursement.

I would love orgs to offer mental health days and the option of using extended sick bank hours as pto if unused at the end of the year! I have 300 hours of ESB and 30 hours of PTO 🫠
I mean, I guess I’d feel appreciated if my employer showed appreciation in anyway at all ever would be great. You know getting a proper raise or promotion when deserved would be nice, but we’re just kind of all stuck in one spot being worked to death.
Pro
Working us to death while they keep eliminating positions / firing people and just expect us to pick up the slack.
