If you receive a negative review, and you think the firm plans to ask you to leave soon, would they have provided a copy of your reviews, etc.?

I think most firms do this as a matter of policy, but it could also be used to establish a paper trail that you failed to show improvement after being made aware of performance issues.

But say your review wasn’t great but wasn’t awful too, and they didn’t provide any documentation for your records, does that mean they aren’t thinking about getting rid of you?

My prior firm didn’t give anyone a copy of their reviews, positive or negative. I don’t know what’s customary in big law though.

Depends on the firm. At my current firm, everyone is sent a link to access their written evaluation, which you can then save as a PDF. At my old firm, you were handed an iPad to review the written evaluation at the beginning of your in-person conference, then you’d never see it again. Hated that!

Hi Sharks 🦈,

Need some suggestions: My current company is on a layoff spree and 2 rounds are already done and I can foresee another round coming very soon.

While I am trying to switch to other companies, I’m not able to reveal the real reason from my side for the job change, as if I say, it’s because of layoff fears than it’ll reduce my negotiation power.

What other reasons can I give as I’ve just completed 9 months here and it’s too soon for any other company to take me in.

My firm’s IT (especially system saving and file locating function) is so bad 😐😞 and they keep doing updates no one asked them for just to mess with the stuff we already got a hang of without doing anything about the issues we actually need fixed. Anyone else in a similar boat? Do you bill the client for the time it takes to fix the IT issue (or IT inefficiency generally, like time taken to find a file in a convoluted system)? Or is that supposed to be our non-billable time?
