Okay this cracked me up but also kinda shocked me: a junior person at our office got let go recently because he was caught on camera taking lunches and snacks from a conference across the hall. The food was for the attendees, but he kept sneaking some for himself. Do you think that’s fair grounds for firing or way too harsh for something like snacks?

You would think a warning or heads-up would have been sufficient in this case. Not sure what the whole story is, though, if there was more to it or what. My concern is that it’s seen as stealing, and companies don’t seem to like that much.

Yeah, exactly. It sounds like there might have been more going on behind the scenes, but I guess once it’s considered stealing, companies usually take it pretty seriously.

Personally I think that is a bit extreme to let them go if it was just over that... He is junior so probably just needs thinks like that being explained. Would've been good to have a bit of a telling off but firing is extreme! Did he know that the food was not for him?? If it was just in a room he may not have known?

Yeah, I felt the same way. If it was just a misunderstanding, firing him seems harsh, especially for someone junior. A warning would’ve made more sense, unless there’s something we don’t know about how many times it happened or if he’d been told before. The food wasn’t even in a room; it was out on stands in the hallway outside the big conference room, so I could see how it might’ve been confusing.

Thoughts on leaving PA primarily due to the metrics based culture (utilization, dtc, use of X digital tool, revenue, margin, etc). I find this aspect of PA stressful and exhausting but not sure if this is something you just get used to. Currently a manager and seems like the metrics just change over time / don’t get easier.

Looking at moving to SF soon. Any recommendations on what neighborhoods to look at? Office would be close to Salesforce tower, so something with easy commute to there would be great. Single late twenties male if that matters. I am interested in areas that are generally not dead and where I can meet people. Thank you.

Hi Fishes,

Has anyone recently gotten the work KITAS? Had some queries about the process.

As my title indicates, I'm both a product and a privacy counsel at my tech co. The product is consumer-facing and deals w/ privacy issues, so lots of overlap. I'm relatively junior, and currently am in the position of being able to commit to one path or the other. Anyone been here before and have thoughts on career progression for the two tracks?

My work priorities, in order: WLB; predictability; $$$; interesting work
