All you can do is tell them whatever problem is that they have outside of work. They need to leave them at home. Add it as a note to file in their paperwork and go from there they’re adults they need to be able to work together, effectively, efficiently, and professional.

Exactly what how I addressed it!
Their past history is none of your business. What is is how they behave when they're on the clock. You need to lay down the law and tell them that they need to either play nice or leave. Side note, but how odd is it that someone referred an ex? Or do you think the split happened after the referral and before the hire?

If they’re bringing their personal issues into work and it’s affecting their working relationship, it is now my business. There is no way that two ppl who supposedly worked together before has this much tension for no reason. Btw, a comment was made by person who made the referral that led me to believe they have some personal relationship history. They didn’t tell me, but I put two and two together. There’s much more that happened, I’m just giving you the cliff notes…
I would just address specific situations. If one is not communicating in a professional way, for example, that is something we’d sit down and discuss expectations on.
That’s about the best you can do until something more happens. Good to get ahead of it if you can tell it might snowball.

That’s such a tricky spot to be in. I’d focus on clear expectations and professionalism at work, regardless of personal history. Address the behavior, not the past, and make sure communication and teamwork are non-negotiable.

Wow I feel like they should’ve disclosed that to begin with
Eventually they will both leave. Or schedule them separate shifts
