Will try, but remember we have managers who will have our heads too : )
Do you feel unsafe in providing the PM with feedback ? Being blunt ?
I am NOT claiming my story below has anything to do with your situation. I am just sharing an issue that happened last year with a new team member.
NOTE: My team has a researcher and designer. The team culture is that they must have Jira tickets (task, story) for their work just like the engineers and writer. This allows the work to be seen.
I had a conflict with the team’s new design lead when they joined the team. They did not partner with me on planning. I found them to be passive. They thought that I did not respect the HCD process.
We had to give each other a “redo”. We had a 1-on-1 to discuss our preferred communication styles. And I learned their prior job was full of micromanagers. They were “not allowed” to create stories in Jira.
When they started the team, I shared that everyone created Jira stories. I start the EPICs and stories for the OKRs. But anyone can edit a story as long as they talk to Jira ticket’s creator. And if they are missing stories, they should create the stories or tasks for their work. They are the design expert. I cannot write all their stories or tasks.
But this part of the team’s culture did not sink in for them. Maybe because of “micromanager trauma” ?
Anyway, they started creating and adding Jira tickets to EPICs. So when we started talking about the schedule we would look at the “to be done” work. Being more transparent with each other helped.
I def see where youre coming from and think micromanager trauma is a part of it
No. Signed - Product Manager who has no idea how long everything should take and is demanding results asap without understanding how they'll get them. LOL.
Will keep this in mind. So sorry about it. Get some rest if you can.
