I don't think you have to lie in order to spin it. You can be vague, just say it wasn't a great fit and I needed a new opportunity. I think you give yourself some power when you refrain from over-explaining yourself.

Recruiters hear “toxic management” stories every day, so they’ll read between the lines. Just don’t vent. Frame it around what you learned or what you want next. I’ve said, “I realized how much I value strong leadership and clear communication, and I’m looking for that in my next team.” Worked great for me.
Conversation Starter
Keep it real, but reframe it. “I learned how important leadership culture is for performance.” That says burnout without saying burnout.
