I'm serving notice period in TCS and my last day is in 2 weeks. I requested for pickup of laptop in the portal but I came to know that it will take time for pickup and I won't be available if they come late. So I decided to go to office and surrender the laptop as I'm in the location of office only. Is there a seperate request to be raised for surrender of laptop and how to cancel the existing request for pickup. Please guide.Tata Consultancy

Depends on state, NY anyone can get health benefits for example. In NJ you have to be a 5 year green card holder or citizen to get state Medicaid medical benefits.
I would recommend going to the local county assistance office. Usually they assign a case worker who can walk through the various options available. Typically, they should meet minimum income requirements and you would not be able to claim them as a dependent on your taxes. May vary by state.
Medicaid
This is not true. For most, you cannot get Medicaid until you have been in the US for at least 5 years.
I think it also depends on the state. Some are more giving than others.
And some are only applicable for US citizens unless the law has changed.
All states allow green card holders to have the same benefits as citizens. You can’t discriminate between the two legally.
I’m helping a friend through this right now.
Unfortunately they’re very few resources out there that will help a new green card holder. I’m assuming that you or someone sponsored him and he just came last year. Well during the sponsorship, someone signed a letter of support. So that person is responsible for this individual. here is what I’ve learned so far:
- Medicaid benefits don’t kick in until after you have had your green card for at least five years
- Medicare benefits don’t kick in unless you’ve paid into the system for at least 10 years
- Most states also follow the five-year rule before offering any benefits. Some states are strict enough with actually require you to have paid taxes for five years before they offer benefits
I will definitely reach out to the local offices because different states have different requirements and regulations. I’ve heard that like some parts of New York and California are much less strict. But a couple of states that I’m helping some family and friends out in it’s very hard.
