You're right about things not adding up. I suspect a lot of companies don't want to hire anyone because of economic uncertainty, but they spin that by saying they can't find qualified people. It just seems bizarre that people are having problems getting interviews if there are all these jobs that can't be filled.
It's one of those things that feels super frustrating because the headlines scream "millions of jobs open!" but then you apply to 50 of them and hear crickets. I've been following this mess closely (mostly because friends and I are all in the same boat), and it really does seem like a lot of companies are playing defense right now rather than genuinely staffing up.
Not everyone, but there is a certain lack of work ethic I am seeing. Showing up late, no ability to do things you don’t want to, etc. Again, not everyone, but I’ve seen it firsthand, and there are definitely people who might be qualified on paper, but not at all in practice.
It’s definitely frustrating! They are learning things the hardest way possible, and even then, it doesn’t seem like they are retaining any of it either.
I so agree with everything you're saying because you're absolutely 💯 percent correct. None of this is making any sense to me either. Also who's to say that college is the best way to go anyway??? Did it ever occur to these companies that maybe most people aren't college material????? That needs to be taken into account as well. Not to mention the fact that college tuition is very expensive nowadays. Books and room and board are also very expensive. Most people can't even afford to go to college nowadays. These companies really need to "wake up" to reality because they're obviously not helping people who are looking for employment
They say they can't find workers as a way to avoid hiring. They can find workers, they choose not to.
