It’s a common time unfortunately b/c they can acccrue all the severance into the current year which will already by sh&t for most agencies margin wise. So if cuts need to be made due to lost business or reduced budgets, sadly it is the time of year. I hope not. But.
No agency likes firing people. It’s one of the most awful things. But unfortunately end of year also means last chance to make numbers. I’m sorry you’re feeling worried but you’re also smart to see the possible signs. Get you stuff in order just in case it happens.
exactly. at least update/polish the portfolio. maybe hit up some friends at agencies you admire/ask if anyone is looking

Every office got hit a bit different. This round wasn’t too bad for us in Chicago.
Typically yes. Agencies are planning for the next fiscal year and balancing the books so they cut to "right" the numbers and open up room to satisfy new hire demands for other departments. It's crazy to lay off folks to hire others but it's done all the time. It's a numbers and titles game tied to utilization, etc. If it happens don't take it personally. It happens to the best of us. I've been through it a few times myself.
There was a layoff at my agency already, a few weeks back. Right after Thanksgiving.
