Starting to question why IB experience is considered so great. There’s way more technical jobs out there, as an analyst ur just messing in PPT for 50% of the time and then maybe some modeling and bs meetings the other half. Obviously it’s important for PE but why do other roles value IB that much?

Does anyone know whether Deloitte would help to obtain LMIA when your work permit/visa is about to expire? I’m at the junior level and not eligible for any streams yet.

Moved to Canada on a work permit but recently got my PR approved. It’s been a 4 month wait to get the actual PR card and I have a family trip coming up soon. I've been editing for a long time, but I'm brand new to agency life. I was hired as a FT in-house editor, but 9mo later, I'm absolutely drained (I come from publishing, which was not nearly as brutal)... and while I love the work and the people, I just canNOT anymore with the hours. Is it easier to set limits and have a life as freelance? What happens to rate if I already have an established salary? Do I just need to bow out of this industry if I want my life back?

Interesting all the noise about these PPT, my take:

The pandemic took all the upside of an IB analyst life (client meetings in person, fancy trips, suit up, worshiped at networking events) and left all the juniors with the downside (long hours, monkey-like type of job, aggressive work environment).

Not that the complaints are not sort of legitimate but you may need to revise the decision-making process that led you to accept a return offer. Specially if you were looking for less hours.
