Layoffs

Anyone here familiar with the hiring process of KPMG consulting in Van? Had a partner interview on Nov 21, thought the feedback was positive but haven't heard back yet (no rejection/offer). Is it something normal or the interview just didn't go as well as I thought?

It's an experienced hire for an SC role. I saw the posting is still open atm, and my guess is that the recruiting team is comparing candidates since competition is higher due to recent layoffs.

Father was laid off a few months back and recently got a new job, he’s wondering if we can still file for unemployment for the months where he wasn’t working?

Anyone have a sense of why Deloitte got hit so hard by layoffs? I’ve heard four potential reasons:
1. Client mix / type of work
2. Leverage
3. Over hired in anticipation of growth
4. Partners didn’t want to take a haircut

Just curious! From an external perspective, seems like they cut way more than the other firms.

Should an ad agency be able to thoroughly check my references and ask for my entire employment history (including why I left each job) before agreeing on a salary?

I’ve had 7 interviews, met every stakeholder, was initially approached by one of them, who will be my boss. Plus I’ve had great feedback after every interview.

I was laid off from my previous job because of COVID so don’t have a ton of leverage. But that shouldn’t make me powerless. The process just seems like overkill.

Thoughts?

Are green card holders eligible for unemployment benefits? Do you need to pay any unemployment insurance while working in order to be eligible for those benefits when you’re laid off?

If a firm (for e.g. PwC with MF Global) loses a pending law suit, are layoffs inevitable?

Any advice for lateraling as first-year business lit associate? I’m not getting any work at my current firm due to partner hoarding and overstaffing. Can I lateral this early or should I wait until I’m inevitably fired for low hours? If I should lateral now, what reasons for leaving should I give interviewers? Hi, I had been laid off several weeks ago and because of eagerness to find a new job, I had sent out several apps to companies with positions I qualified for. However, I was screened out immediately due to my resume.

Because of this, I had revamped my resume to better showcase my qualifications after having colleagues review and provide feedback.

I wanted to see if it would be worth trying to apply to the same positions with a different email? Thank you for any advice!

People realize the recession is only just starting right? So far we have only had a few rate rises, with many more to come. Stocks are down a little, but only just barely into bear territory. Major companies will be reporting large losses soon, but that hasn't happened yet, and the market will react to that.

No major companies have begun large layoffs yet, either, so far we are only seeing a few minor hiring freezes. And of course we haven't seen bankruptcies yet, but they are surely coming.

Laid off by Deloitte and although having immediate rehire eligibility (pmd said this) firm is sparsely hiring. Got a director level role in industry and am psyched to start soon! Learned a lot at the firm and am excited for my next opportunity.

Hey guys, need some advice. I was fortunate enough to get the Consortium fellowship at Ross but am also stuck on the CBS waitlist and am still planning to apply to Wharton in R3. Assuming I get into CBS/Wharton, is there that much of a difference between them to forgo scholarship money? A close friend of mine (also an atty) recently committed suicide and I feel completely lost. Her family doesn't want that publicly known so I can't even discuss the suicide with most of my friends/family, I just say she "died unexpectedly but we don't have many details." I feel like my grief is affecting my work productivity (compounding the pre-existing covid anxiety), but it feels weird to seek leave time to grieve for a non-family member's death. Anyone ever dealt with a similar situation?

I have 52 days to study for the far. I can study 10-12 hours on the weekends and 3-4 hours per day on the weekdays. With Becker I’ll be able to get through all the modules and have two weeks for review. Is this enough time to pass?
