There was a time I felt grateful just to be included, even when the environment wasn’t great. Have you ever convinced yourself to accept less because you felt “lucky” to be there?

Yes, and looking back, that was a survival tactic. Cling on to whatever you can at the time. It’s just remembering you deserve better. That is the hard part.

I didn’t either until I got out of the situations where having a job was being lucky. I completely understand it can be, but when you are working and being told that, it’s just awful. An excuse for them to treat you poorly.

Sometimes you have to step back to move two steps to go forward. Look at it as a way, to get into the company you want and if you don't need to rush into a job.

That’s a great way to think about it!

I'm currently interviewing for a hardware internship (at a startup). I've had a phone interview, a 30 minute technical interview and now I have a 2-3 hour interview. Is it just me or does this seem a little excessive for an internship?

Howdy…I need a sanity check! As part of my previous role, I reported security non-compliance and gross security misrepresentations. For my valiant efforts I was laid off (despite being a protected whistleblower) and my reports were buried. Everything I did was in line with my responsibilities. I was extremely concerned that systems housing personal credit data on all US consumers were not adequately protected. I essentially risked my job to protect data and I’m not sure if it mattered.

How is it that every company complains they can’t find workers yet 9/10 posts on linked in the last few weeks are all about layoffs? And just taking a look at the jobs in your are…why does every job suck and want to pay you 45k?

I'm graduating with a Master's in Biomedical Engineering with a decent amount of research in academia (and no "professional experience" outside of research facilities), but I don't want to pursue down the line to get a PhD. I have been juggling the options of R&D in the industry (MedTech, Biotech, Pharma) or Consulting (Life Sciences) for which I don't really have a background. What are my other options?

Looking for a home office chair…I need something really ergonomic/comfortable but given the visibility of the office in the house the wife wants something stylish. She keeps calling all my ideas ‘gamer chairs’ even though they’re definitely not. Anyone have any chairs they really like that may be worth looking at? I feel like I’ve looked everywhere (Steelcase, Herman Miller, humanscale, Haworth, xchair, etc).
