If you desire to become a sales manager or other sales leader, it would behoove you to show a high level of sales expertise/performance yourself. But good performance doesn’t necessarily make you a good manager/leader. If you have the above covered, then I would suggest seeking other opportunities to showcase your ability to delegate effectively and coach or build others. I’ve seen sales managers come and go because they lack one of the above.
