Buildings have to make sure internal temperature is at least 62 degrees indoors. In practice this means that usually if the overnight temps dip into low 40s, they turn on the radiators

Looks like we’re talking about different halves of the same law.
My thermostat reads 70. But I’m freezing my butt off wearing 2 sweaters in door. Is it all psychosomatic? When it’s 70 in July I found it too hot. What gives….

We turned it on a month ago

My building landlord said it’s been on since October 1. I have a bunch of emails back and forth complaining about it. Particularly brutal trying to get a 4-year-old ready for school in the morning in a cold apartment.
Just turned ours on last night
https://www.nyc.gov/site/hpd/services-and-information/heat-and-hot-water-information.page says: "Heat must be provided between October 1st and May 31st, i.e. "Heat Season," under the following conditions:.."
The conditions are about specific temps. But since it's such a royal pain to start up and shut down a boiler system, if you live in a prewar building like myself they will likely have the radiators on that whole time
Nope but I’ve also never had a baseboard radiator until this apartment so maybe there’s just a switch I need to flip? Anyway, my apartment runs hot so I don’t need it yet.
