Texas High School,
Um, I'm sorry.... Are white teachers attacking non-white students? By the same token, are non-white good teachers attacking white children? Since when does skin color have ANYTHING to do with being a good, compassionate, successful teacher? I teach quite a mixed group of students. I would challenge you to find one who believes he/she is not safe and cared for in my class because of his/her skin tone.
This whole DEI push simply removes qualifications and standards and replaces them with melanin requirements.
Chief
I agree. Skin color does not make someone a good or bad teacher! But attitude and bias sure changes the effect of a teacher.
It will eventually revert back to the good 'ole boy system where people are hired because they know someone. People without connections will be fighting for the few remaining positions, and the gap between the classes will continue to grow.
I would prefer they hire someone who knows the difference between hire and higher.
I suspect that those who do not spend time consoling themselves with the myth that they were passed over "for a DEI hire".
I’ve seen firsthand how DEI efforts can help students build confidence, connect with peers, and feel a sense of belonging. If we lose those initiatives, we might see more disengaged students, and that could have long-term consequences for their academic and social development.
What I think is that a lot of kids are in for a rough life ahead of them. There's a movement in America to just remove diversity from society, and that means a lot of opportunities will once again be denied to many people. Part of me thinks the country won't stand for it, winning an election with less than 50% of the vote doesn't change America overnight. But it sure looks like there will be a lot of struggle over civil rights going forward.
DEI is just a term. My school district has already removed the term on its website, but it now uses language that promotes diversity while not specifically saying DEI. That is the way to comply without hurting kids.
Will they remove the ell programs now? My guess is the English learner programs will be refunded as well in the near future.

I can't imagine that the ELL programs will end because they are so needed
