I have been struggling with this question myself for quite some time. However, I’ve come to the realization that it probably comes down to AI skills. So I’m looking into online courses or what I can do to up skill in AI.

AI has so much to offer, I’m sure you’ll find a lot through that.
I have both my PHR and my SHRM CP, as well as a masters degree in HR. I’m not sure whether you have any of these or not but I would highly recommend getting a SHRM certification if at all possible. almost all higher level HR positions require this now I learned so much when I received mine and the fact that it requires continuing education hours keeps my tools in my tool belt, sharpen it all times.

I don’t have this so thank you that’s a good point for if I want to further my career.
There's always so much data and 'the key HR skill for 2026!' type of content on offer. But are these a reality in YOUR role? Try these questions as starting point:
1. What feedback have I received/requested about my performance in the role?
(Hint #1 - asking for feedback is scary - but try ask people 'what am I doing well?' and 'how could I be even better?')
2. If I could solve one thing this year about my role, what would it be?
(Hint #2 - think about the biggest pain point you have to deal with, and what can you do about it/ what would make it better than it is today?)
3. How can I use my strengths more?
(Hint #3 - use you strengths to address your weaknesses. If you're great at time management but need to improve your public speaking/presentation skills, write and conduct a short training session).
4. What will make this learning stick?
(Hint #4 - Most traing dissipates rapidly over 3 weeks. So make sure you build in situations where you have to out your learning into practice repeatedly. There's even science to back this up too!)
5. How will I know if I've been successful?
(Hint #5 - Be as structured and ckear with your development goals as you are with your performance goals. Ensure that they are ALIGNED (to company objectives) RELEVANT (to you and your role), and ENGAGING (don't waste time on a goal that doesn't motivate you, go where your energy goes!)

The skill that changed everything for me was learning how to explain the "why" behind people decisions. It removed friction, reduced conflict, and made my work clearer to others. Anything that strengthens communication pays off quickly.

Yes definitely!
AI is the latest buzz word so get some certs there. Also project management, and HCM certifications will help. Finally, advanced specialized degrees show up better.
