What’s one piece of career advice you find yourself repeating over and over? That perhaps some people won’t follow or consider.

Something that will often come to mind and I'll say it to someone is "choose your battles." Too many people just want to fight about every little thing. One could argue that it's good to stick to your principles, but in the real world that can be a bad idea. You just become known as someone who is argumentative, and when something important comes along and you need to fight about it, that reputation means you won't be taken seriously.

Yes I’ve heard that phrase a lot within my work life and it is very true and will be one that stays around.

"Be somebody you'd want to work with." I think about this any time I feel tempted to cut corners or avoid a responsibility and pretend I forgot or something. It pays to be a good coworker and teammate.

I love that expression, yes it’s always best to be a good person😊

"You work for the company, they don't own you".
Especially in those times when you're building your career and going above and beyond

This is a new mantra for me: clarity beats readiness. You don’t need to be 100% ready to make a move, you just need clarity on what direction feels meaningful and what skills you want to deepen. People often wait for the perfect moment that never comes.

Yes that is very true, the perfect moment does never come.

I always repeat that consistency is more important than intensity. People want fast wins but ignore steady habits.

Yeah I never thought of it like that but it’s true, I’ve see that happen

Most of the time, it's not what you know...it's who you know. That is the absolute truth.

How would you rate the freelance market at the moment? I’ve recently quit fulltime, and beyond a couple of my own (LLC) short client projects - I’ve had zero agency freelance over the summer.
I have 10 years exp (2.5 as CD on well known brands) at respected agencies, and some awards.
What am I doing wrong? I left FT to address some long term burnout, but now I’m afraid if this continues - I’ll have to go back full time, without even snagging a FL gig. 🫤

How many hours a week are you working? I’m generally clocking about 50-60 and I’m exhausted. I’m busy, but it’s mostly because no one I work with has any boundaries.
