What are you doing for a retirement plan as an independent consultant? Solo 401K, SEP IRA, etc.? Any recommendations on where to open an account?

Hi all- new to fishbowl. Not really sure how to use and explore the app yet but I saw this bowl and figured I would introduce myself. I am a wholesaler for 401K and I am able to partner with advisors who currently uncover 401K opportunities or are looking to learn how to. I recently received a VP offer at AlixPartners, can someone at AP help me understand this new profit sharing/ longevity bonus they have? The HR rep was not very clear given how new it is. I presume it is additive to any annual bonus or 401k match, correct? How does it work? How long is the vesting period? Etc.

Between two offers, "Associate Principal" for m&a consulting in the Healthcare industry vs a Director at a F300 company doing M&A and Partnerships. Consulting pays about 50k more. What does the future look like in consulting? I am a bit nervous jumping from from "industry side" to the "consulting side".

I left an omnicom agency for a Publicis one. My new benefits cost me 250 a paycheck (medical, dental, vision) for my spouse and kids. At omnicom it was 630 per check. That’s fuckin robbery right there.

So I was a 5th year associate in nyc making 100 k a year 2k billable hours.. I decided to leave for the role Im in now.. my old countered to keep me at 115k (which was like pulling teeth for them) but I left anyways now I find out that they offered a 7th year 150 k and a partner title should I be offended that they didn’t even try more with me

I think I know the answer, but want to hear others’ opinions before giving up on the dream. I’m currently at $120k base with 6 yoe. Is there any chance I can get close to that as a fed in the IC? Or am I just looking at a GS11 step 1 that’ll hurt pretty bad? Are there any perks that can help offset the lost income like childcare stipends (the agency mentions a childcare subsidy on their benefits site but I can’t find what that actually means)? Thanks!
