My LM is so keen on small small things, not related to coding but documentation and all. Atleast once in a week I'm committing mistakes on small documentation points n he is stressing on same. Are there any chances that my probation will not be extended or is it a clue for me from my LM. He is Looping his LM and asking questions/clarifications.
Should I ask him directly or can be ignored or need to try outside. Please suggest Barclays

You’re not alone. In this industry, fulltime is illusion of security and freelance is the illusion of freedom.
In the US Full time is basically freelance, since everybody is employed at-will and can be dropped in a day… just my 2 cents
I don’t want to jinx it but I’ve been booked solid for two years :knocks on every wood surface:
Doubled and tripled a lot year one and built up a pretty good client roster of agencies and a few in house clients. Most of the time someone reaches out before I’ve finished the gig I’m on and almost everyone extends for months but once or twice I’ve had to hit up the network when I thought I felt a slow down coming odds are someone I’ve worked with before needs a hand.
It is all about your connections. 99% of my gigs are from people I worked with or know from the business. I’m currently double booked, so the market isn’t cold per se, but again, is all about relationships.
I’m usually always booked and it’s unusually quiet now. I plan to stay freelance, but it’s hard to accept a slow month that leads to two, etc.
Me too. Usually booked solid. Last couple of months have been sloooowww.
Been FL since May, similar situation - I’ve broken through at a couple shops, but its definitely easier if you have connects. Otherwise, I’m finding it’s sort of a “be patient, get in, impress, get called back.” Type sitch.
I’ve been a freelancer for 15 years and this is the first year I’ve haven’t been hired by an agency. It’s been brutal.
It’s end of august.
That means end of fiscal.
budgets have run over, so agencies are running short.
Sept will see more $$ and more projects
Hang in there y’all. Juice summer for what it’s worth.
The economy might not be in a recession, but freelancing definitely is. It’s a tough time to be a freelancer, more so if you’re just starting out with not much momentum.
It WAS a great FL market last year. Not this year. We have a moratorium on all FL, and I don’t see it changing for a while.
Maybe Q1 2023. Agencies went on a mad freelance spending spree and are right sizing.
Glad to hear I’m not the only one in this situation. Quit in May to join what seemed like a great market for freelancing, but turned out to be just in time for this slowdown. 😵💫 Hoping things start to pick up soon.
I also have a theory that the Fed decided to demolish the economy with interest rate hikes to kill some of the leverage workers gained recently and force everyone back to the office. Commercial real estate interests hate WFH. They keep telling us there is no recession but companies sure are acting like it. We are being gaslighted folks.

Early part of the year was scary slow but I have been triple booked all summer, billing the dream.
Q2 was scary slow but I am booked now for the next 6 weeks thankfully
I came to advertising late career, had clients that loved me and minor successes but spent most of it wanting to win awards. I was the “smart creative that took on the hard briefs” Maybe it’s that kind of masochism that’s led me to being dogged at freelancing. This is my first week off in 2 years, which was preceded by a long streak of double and triple billing...And I can’t relax, keep checking my phone, applying for gigs, chatting CCOs, I even billed 2 days because of nonstop calls and a botched design brief..... I can’t be scared to reward myself with time off. For me it’s the panic of being 40, believing my time is coming to an end, that my existence and value to my family as our sole provider is winding down, and I need all the money now.... but I do it at the very expense of my fam . Shouldn’t a dad be present and happy? This industry; I love the work, but does everything need to be sooo.... why am I on fishbowl while at the beach?
I get it. I’m 31 but similar approach to freelancing. Booked solid for two years, double and triple like I’ll never see another gig again. Took a week off in April and could not be present. It’s like the agency grind and hustle mentality we were indoctrinated into for years never leaves you even when your your own boss.
Been FL since January. I’m looking for FT as well as freelance.
I left full time in May and have been booked since June but not a ton of other inquiries. A few here and there.
Took like 5 weeks to get booked initially.
Smart money left long time ago unfortunately
Same situation. Left fulltime early this year. Got booked quick and lots of inquiries while booked. Been slow since and hearing a lot about freelance freezes.
same here!
Have worked numerous C2C contracts via 3rd party. I would like to go direct with the customer. How does it work? Whats the path to gain a direct b2b access with a F500 company? Suggestions and ideas welcome. Am I even in the right bowl for that conversation? Fishbowl newbie.
