Tons of brands cannot advertise towards children anyways so I can’t imagine it affecting us too much.
Doubt it’ll change anything. Usually advertising is directed 18+ to begin with.
That aside, under 16s will probably still find ways to access social media.
I wish they did this years ago. Having teens I’ve observed how brutal social media has been especially if there is any mental health issues already present. But if you restricted it they would be left out socially by their friends who had it. Not on purpose but by default. There is a no good answer except banning it straight across the board IMHO. Not answer to the question, I know. Just a huge pain point for parents which is something to think about for strategy decks until something is passed.
They aren’t doing it for kids. They want you to use your ID to register on social media so they can track what you say online.
In 20 years of doing this, I’ve never received a project from a client where our audience was under 18.
You advertise to their parents
I hope Canada does this

There’s already strict laws and standards preventing advertising to minors below 13. It doesn’t really change much for the vast majority of advertisers.
I temporarily worked in a WPP agency in Australia over the past year while the under 16 social media ban was announced and implemented. It had zero impact on anything we did or were doing.
The ban itself wasn’t as effective as they thought it was going to be, a lot of under 16s were able to bypass it.
Informative and insightful. Thank you.
Immediately, Snapchat stops doing lunch and learns (because they'll no longer exist)
😆 The ban will be useless in the sense that Grade 9 & 10 students will disobey and bypass the restriction somehow. The younger students will also continue their social media addiction with their siblings and friends.
Are we just asking questions for the sake of asking questions now
I wanted other people’s views and opinions

SD2 for the record, Canada has very different digital laws than Australia.
Even though kids can bypass, the brands may be liable for showing up now.
