I never feel guilty! These are simply jobs, you have your own life and need your own leisure time. You don’t even know what tomorrow holds, so enjoy today.
It usually takes me a couple days to fully “turn off” work mode, but I’ve taken two 8 day vacations this year and feel better than ever.
On rare occasions I do feel guilty. I generally average an hour a day on vacation because I have a team under me that needs direction, sometimes there’s a fire drill. I only do it for those guilty projects, the ones coming from my C level. But I come back incredibly refreshed after vacation, plus how expensive they are! I take my moment.
Why are we working for a day in the future we may never see?
I just went on vacation last week for a week. I don’t ever feel guilty because my mindset is they wouldn’t feel guilty laying me off.
I used to feel so guilty, took my phone and laptop with me, would jump in on fire drills and then I saw someone literally have a stroke in front of me at a work meeting due to a tremendous level of stress. I know a bit much but that’s literally what it took. I now take a week off every 3 months, whether a vacation or staycation, I take the time off to disconnect and reset. I make sure my peer is aware of anything pending I have ongoing and I also have one of my supervisor as my back up, I find that the business keeps running without me 🤍. Good luck, we all know the feeling!
Took an unplanned vacation the first week of June - found a great deal on flights and just couldn't pass it up. No guilt.
I feel pressure to work - "just one call, can you take a quick look at this, this is the only time that works for the client". Then I feel guilty because my husband is waiting for me or annoyed that I'm working. I can never just fully relax and it drives me crazy
