When I brought home my three parrots years ago, my husband was fully on board, but now he complains about their chirping while working from home and the occasional mess. I understand his perspective, but these birds bring me so much joy, especially during busy times, and he did agree back then! For those who’ve been in a similar situation, how did you handle differing opinions on pets in your marriage?

We've never argued over pets, we're both big animal lovers with a combined family of 3 dogs and 4 cats. Could you potentially move them to another part of the house that's farther away from where he works? It doesn't solve the core problem of him seeming resentful of them, but maybe it wouldn't bother him as much if he wasn't hearing them whenever he's working.

Thanks for your suggestion! We’ve tried shifting them a bit, but maybe it’s time to get creative with how we divide up space. And you’re right, it might help ease some of that tension if they’re not in earshot all day.

Only had a few instances where my husband had an ‘issue’ with a pet that we both agreed on at the time! I told him that I was the one taking 100% responsibility for my cat and if there was something else wrong? Pets are a very long term commitment and that is what everyone is agreeing to at the start.

I’m also the one taking full responsibility for the parrots—he doesn’t do much beyond occasionally petting them. You’re absolutely right that pets are a long-term commitment, and it’s important to remind each other of that.

LOL are they loose in the house ??? Flying around his head while this dude is working???? Just put them in a cage in a separate room and clean up after them???? Don’t let them fly around ????

Haha, not quite flying around his head all the time while he’s working, but they do get some free-flight time! They have their own cages, but it’s not ideal to keep them confined all the time. I do my best to clean regularly, but it’s tough to keep things spotless every single time.

Oh man, that sounds AWFUL. I’m kinda with your husband. I hate the idea of birds as pets, only partly because of the chirping sounds, but mostly because the thought of birds on cages rather than flying free is sad to me.

I can picture anyone thinking they could be okay with it at first, then after actually experiencing what it is like to live with pet birds, realizing that they don’t like it.

I totally get where you’re coming from—it’s not for everyone. But now that we’ve had them for a couple of years, it would feel irresponsible to return them to the breeder. Parrots weren’t my first choice either, but he’s actually allergic to fur from more traditional pets like cats and dogs,

Yikes that sounds like a rough situation to be in. Do you have somewhere they can put them that they might be heard less? Or a way to kind of quiet them down?

Yeah, we’ve tried moving them to a separate room, but parrots are smart and loud when they want attention! I

I’ve worked in sales for 12 years (8 years retail sales and management, 4 years inside tech sales and management). I’m feeling the burn and looking for something else in the tech field. I’m making $140k. I have a college degree but no marketing, engineering, or product experience. What other departments/jobs could I jump to and still keep close to my OTE? I’m pretty good at Salesforce and have thought about a SFDC admin type role, but that’s all I’ve thought of so far.

I’m seriously contemplating taking a software development boot camp. For those who hire new software developers, does it make you stand out if you get your certificate from a university instead of a coding academy (like coding dojo or something)? I noticed the universities are a bit more expensive but is it worth the price to have a university on your resume or does it not really matter?
