Agreed. If there are more than 30-40 employees in a major city and none are black, I feel that the lack of representation is intentional. I skip right past them.
It very much is intentional
Rising Star
Companies largely hire for productivity not for representation. Black Americans are 13-14% of the country and are a disproportionate percentage of low-income service industry workers. There’s a small percentage of Black professionals who would be eligible hires for white collar positions. To be frank, if a company knows they can hire a yt employee who’ll do the work vs a Black employee who’ll begrudgingly do it while feeling out of place (look at the plethora of articles online of Black women publicizing they feel uncomfortable and unwelcome in the workplace) they’ll hire the person who’ll do the job without having to worry about discrimination complaints or having to accommodate an employee’s feelings. Additionally, there’s the aspect of some Black people saying they want representation in the workplace. If you’re saying you don’t want to work in a place with no Black people publicly, then you’re telling certain employers to overlook you. I never see any other skin tone of people say things like that.
Kind of like how everyone now thinks all of us wear wigs and weaves.
They aren’t afraid. It has nothing to do with fear
They are hiring. Maybe not you. Either it’s your resume or your skillet or your interviewing skills. Maybe you need to invest in some type of coaching.
Also DEI barely benefits black folk in the workplace the biggest beneficiaries are white women and Latinos.
Def & LGBT falls under DEI as well!
Look at Vista Equity Partners but expecting to be in the majority is unrealistic since we aren’t in the majority in this country.
Have you seen everyone & met everyone in the different departments How big are the companies? I find that to be unrealistic. What city or state do you live in?
