I’m a second year tax senior, looking to leave the Big 4. I don’t want to do tax anymore because busy season has been very bad for both my mental and physical health. Has anyone made the switch from a tax job to something more finance/accounting related with a good work/life balance?

I’m talking to some tech companies and one in particular is a startup valued at $6 billion and likely going public within the year. Head of Design for product focused brand and marketing. I have an idea of cash comp but wondered what others would ask. I have 20+ years experience, awarded, and have clients similar to their roster. I know what I’d ask if big tech but not sure about a startup.

If you join a company in second half of the year, is it normal to miss the pay review process completely? I have been at my company a year now and my first pay review is scheduled for early 2023. I only worry because in this climate I will need a 15% bump just to keep up with inflation, which is probably towards the high end

How hard is it for a Staff II in audit to transition to Tech Risk Management at EY or the other big 4 for that matter? Or would it be easier to move to a mid sized firm for a position like that.

To sum up my audit experience, glad I picked audit over tax. But wished I stayed away from public accounting altogether.

Trivia time: without googling, can you tell who was the first Indian chef ever to get a Michelin star?

If given an offer with a large base but not a ton of equity (ex: $120k base and equivalent of $10k equity vested per year) at a tech company expected to IPO within a year, would it be wise to ask to exchange cash for equity? Ex: $110k base $20k equity? Put differently, are huge jumps in valuation typical for IPOs, and thus should I try and maximize that component if I’m more than happy with base?
