There are a lot of options. Anything close into the city is pretty nice and pretty expensive. Lots of folks with kids live north - in the shoal creek area, mueller or west hills. Westlake is also good for kids. Travis Heights, Clarksville, Cherrywood and old Enfield are more residential neighborhoods near downtown. Big-ish houses, some duplexes and apartments. There are also some good neighborhoods off manchaca south of 71 with mid-sized ranch styles. Also some good stuff off south lamar near zilker park. Message me if you want an avalanche of details. 😊
Yessssssss. R/GA Austin is the best of Austin and the best of R/GA. Get on down here AD! Get ready for spacious living and make sure you are prepped to start shit-talking NY stat! 😉
AD 1 – Thank you!! RGA!
There are some apartments around downtown and that area. some could be pricey, but you could probably find something walkable if you didn’t have a car in NYC.
Maybe something down Lamar as well
@CD 1 - thank you so much! I started looking at these neighborhoods last night. I know UT is in the downtown area as well, I’d like to steer clear of the college kids (no hate I’m just too old for that scene!) That being said, anywhere I should avoid?
@AD 1 - I don’t have a car but not totally opposed to getting one. Best case scenario, I’d like to find a studio or one bedroom in a neighborhood I could walk to grab a coffee. I’ve been checking out Lamar - seems cool!
Mueller area at I-35 @ Airport Blvd. Lots of restaurants, apartments, bars, Alamo Drafthouse, coffee shops, and close to downtown
@ R/GA 1 - Sooooo pumped. Can’t wait to get there and get to work. And I’m ready for 😍 laundry in unit 😍 I’ll be able to shit talk enough to keep up, I’ll always have a soft spot for NY!
Anything apartment like within 1-ish miles of the university is probably an issue with the exception of Cherrywood. There’s another college on Woodlawn (i think) and 35 but it’s less collegey than UT. I live near St Edwards - the second college. I have no issues with partying or anything. All my neighbors are lawyers. Ha ha ha
I would look at east Austin or south near zilker. Travis heights is really nice. Downtown you can walk to stuff, but it’s probably not where you’ll actually end up hanging out.
East Austin all the way.
Also depends if you’re looking for walkable areas or are open to a commute from a more suburban area. South of 71 and north of 183 get you into long commute world - likely by car unless you are a very committed biker
where will you be working? The traffic can get kinda nuts and austin doesn’t really have the best public transportation, also congrats!
What is your situation? Married? Kids? single?
@ Brand Strategy Director 1 - Me myself & I! Looking for a studio or 1 bedroom that has a reasonable commute
There are some apartments on south congress and south 1st that aren't too pricey (I've heard good things about State House for instance). Very very walkable area.
