Would you stay at a firm you started 6 weeks ago if you have felt nothing more than burnout and nonstop work? No time for marketing or events and limited time for family? Starting my 5th year and the firm is a decent firm but with no breathing room at least in my department.

6 weeks isn’t a ton of time. The best thing will be to just be honest to the partners about capacity

likehelpful

It will look bad to move after 6 weeks. What made you come to the firm? Although burnout is real and this happened when I moved firms and now I cannot wait to leave.

like

Personally no but it depends on your circumstances and whether you can afford to have some time out. I left my last firm due to burn out and have taken a year off. I’m starting a new job soon and if it’s just as busy/badly managed I’m definitely out asap.

Can you delegate and decline new work? Can you see a light at the end of the tunnel?

Ooh I’ve been there and it’s like the paralegals were hazing me. My concerns came closer to the 6 month mark and then I stayed nearly 4 years. The only thing that helped me was developing a better relationship with one of the partners. He became more of a mentor and then it was easier to get help from the paralegals and the other two partners
eased up a bit.

You need to communicate

like

Okay 190 should not be burn-out level, so something about how you are managing your time and stress is making things worse. You’re ramping up on all new matters. 1800 for the year doesn’t mean you’re burning out in one month of 190. Things will ebb and flow.

I was in your situation. When I communicated this issue, I was told I needed to prioritise. It doesn’t get any better. It’s better to leave asap, otherwise it takes a toll on your mental and physical health. Forget about HR. They’re there to protect the firm, not the employee’s interests.

That’s what I suspect. I have asked for support it got me no where!!

Try to give it 6 months to see the ebbs and flows. This period may not be representative.

like

I would agree to a certain extent. The lack of support from paralegals and assistants is also unnerving.

I don’t think it looks bad. Make the right professional and personal decision. You’ve got to produce quality. If the environments not helping, take actions

I definitely could use the extra paycheck to help out with my financial obligations. Just wanted to see if anyone has done this before.

Genuinely curious question: why do so many international students want to get MBAs in the US... it’s hard for them to get work here, with Trump it’s hard to even get and stay here, so what’s the appeal? There are plenty of other good universities internationally so why the expensive ones in the US?

Sharks and other fishes,
I need some career advice,
In my current company I think the development portion I've been given is kinda simple, I've asked my manager and seniors to level up my work and stuff, *which they did* but I kinda caught up.. now what should I do, should I ask them to level up again or look for better opportunities
Also, I had some Interest in CyberSecurity and I grinded it on my pre-final semester at Uni, should I try on that path as well or should I stick to development?

Welcome to all of you. I created this bowl specifically for strategy consulting professionals in India.

So I work for a small company as a SEM/Director… which in my world just means I am really Lead Developer, Part BA and part product owner as well as reviewing the devs. I came up in this company starting at about SE3 of 5 so the position is just kind of what I made it. I have recently been getting interest from some larger companies like Amazon. Long preamble to ask, what are the day to day responsibilities/expectations of an SEM at a FAANG?

Does anyone have any insights on the Certificate Investment Performance Measurement (CIPM)?
