Thank you. That’s where the anxiety comes in, though your response has cleared the brain fog a bit. Telling them now is definitely better than waiting for when I start! I’ll drop them an email with the details along with some questions about the first day.
All it takes is clear communication. Take your holiday and tell your new employer the dates of your holiday; how would they know what dates to honor if you haven’t communicated that with them? This should’ve been done when you initially discussed your holiday vacay with them.
As to your current employer, 2 1/2 months notice is unheard of. Unless your employer handbook says it is mandatory to put in the notice, then f*ck them. Your holiday starts now and you can put in your notice effective immediately. Alternatively, you could take a 5 week emergency leave at the current employer, and put in your resignation the last 2 weeks of your “emergency leave.” What are they going to do about it? Fire you?
