Keep applying elsewhere, stay at your job, and don’t talk about this publicly. Stay cautiously optimistic.
I’m not desperate to get out of my company/job, but this is an extremely compelling opportunity - once in a career chance in my field. If it doesn’t work out, I’d be happy to stay where I’m at.
I wouldn’t let this potential job stop me from interviewing for another amazing opportunity, but I’ve been with my job for almost 4 years and no opportunity has even come close to this.
But yeah not discussing this at work until there is paperwork signed, etc.
Agree, until you start, you do not have a job. Keep looking. If the current situation comes through and starts, great! If it doesn’t come through, you wasted a year of learning and growth.
Ahhh sorry you’re right!! Thanks (:
I have twice in the last year. With one company, it was consulting and with that I started to have less and less confidence about the role. The company was having layoffs and with consulting, if there is no project to immediately staff you on, then there is no role. I eventually declined the verbal offer and moved on. With the other company, they were just slow and scheduling things took a while as did final sign offs. But, it was tech and I didn’t get any feeling that they were stringing me along. Took about 6-7 months from first interview to actual written offer but well worth the wait.
In the meantime, I kept performing well in my role and talking to recruiters.
That sounds like potentially perfect timing then! I would keep in touch and go with the flow until they are ready to give you the written offer. Sounds like a good one.

You also have nothing to gain until you have a mutually signed offer letter and a schedule start date (even then this is questionable if it is not within the next few weeks).
Yup. Got sketched out at “later this year”. It doesn’t take that long to figure it out if it’s a position you need and want.
