I heard someone recently give an interesting discussion about how AI really impacts 'workers' beyond the things like layoffs. In the discussion, he talked about how there is research that many people engage in 'simple' tasks as a way of resting or resetting their mental state, and removing those steps through things like AI and automation doesn't 'leave them free to work on important stuff,' but rather takes away those 'micro-breaks' from difficult tasks. I also wonder if it reduces our personal sense of control and loss of confidence. For example, a Data Scientist might automate a data prep process to simplify a boring task, but they still will go in and check the data by hand occasionally.
So, I think you are right. There are some very REAL psychological effects of turning to AI. Just like Internet searches and GPS as making us dumber (relying on GPS is proven to reduce geospatial reasoning skills), AI may do much the same thing.

DS1 - You remind me that 25 years ago I was using a WYSIWYG website tool. I opened the code for the site it built me and the HTML/JavaScript/CSS it used to create the site was terrible. It violated several standards and conventions for "good" website development. Not AI, but it was built to follow the path of least resistance because the developers only concern was to produce 'something' that worked. I suspect AI will do the same.
Are you kidding me, AI has caused 1000’s to be laid off, companies lay off so they can pay for that $35 Billion company they had to absorb that other companies people also, then they layoff their own people. They layoff their more productive people and hope for the best!
What about AI is negatively impacting??? I am finding the exact opposite.
From a Software career assurance standpoint, AI is going to be integrated into almost everything because you can hardly thing of something that it does not improve, especially when it comes to consumer product offerings.
That said, we've got to jump ship as early as possible.
AI is a turning point in history and we are the first to witness it.
