What you have seems to be working for you but since you asked the question it seems to be an issue at least sometimes. Seems like you are only missing a sofa. There plenty of cheap sofas if you don’t want to rent. You could also buy a nice trifold sofa bed, futon, day bed etc which are pretty cheap as well. You can donate/throw or sell when it comes time to move.
You can also get a small dining table similarly.
Depending on how nice they are, it should cost you around $1000 which isn’t too expensive even if you donate after a year lease.
Oof. Idk man you do what makes you happy but I’m 24F and that’s a huge turnoff for me. Like I probably would not be friends with you if I saw that’s the standard by which you live and treat yourself.
EY2 if I were OP, I wouldn’t want you as my friend. I’ll enjoy my house in a few years while you go broke making a landlord rich and trying to impress your friends
Note - my gf isn’t in love with my barebones apartment but it’s not a dealbreaker…yet
When the situation impedes the life you wish to have, then focus on changing. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it
Nah u do u king
Buy furniture if you can afford it. You’re getting too old for this
Note - money is not a problem for me at all. My main concern is the hassle of moving stuff that I don’t really need. I’ve got a bed, mattress, decent desk, Herman Miller, and tv/tv stand - all high quality stuff since I use it so much. But all of it fits in one uhaul, and I don’t feel motivated to get a sofa, art, plants, or a dinner table (got an island with stools) until I have a permanent home. Otherwise I prefer living out of two suitcases and my essentials until I buy a place
Honestly I’m like you. I tend to move quite often and don’t want the hustle of moving EVERYTHING. I’ve learnt that if I don’t need it, I don’t get it. Not because of money but because of usefulness. Rn I literally have a bed, desk, clothes and kitchen utensils. I don’t even have a tv because i never use it. Bro you do you and don’t think twice what other people would tell you, there will always be someone that complains.
Kudos to you more money doesn’t mean more wastage. Women who are turned off by this are also slaves to the capitalist mindset of “spend it if you have it” there aren’t much but there are some good women who will like you for who you are. Avoid spending on useless clutter and travel the world instead. Power to you my man
I’m 50, which begs the question why I’m in this group. Regardless, I can tell you that the more stuff you acquire, the more of a hassle it is to move. I’ve moved both domestically and abroad. Each time I leave stuff behind. Some gets donated. Some sold and some trashed. So, there is virtue is minimalism if it provides you what you are looking for. Don’t get hung up on what others in your age bracket have or are doing. Be true to yourself. This has nothing to do with “growing up”. Some of the most childish, narcissistic people I know are those with many worldly possessions. I will say though that cleanliness and orderliness of your home is more important than quantity of stuff. Stay lean and clean. That’s more impressive.
Also 24 and feel the same but I have Bed frame, nightstand, desk, small table in living room, kitchen barstools, sofa, TV stand. All you really need and it isn’t too much
Add a rug and a bar cart and you and I have the same apartment!
Or just move into a furnished apartment?
Gross. Last thing you need is a mattress or sofa full of bed bugs.
They hate how little it takes to be happy, you should buy some furnishings that fit your budget though.
Having a real table and chairs to eat at and a nice sofa is worth the extra trip when moving.
Lmao ight bro I think it ultimately boils down to this: DO. YOU. If you’re comfortable and happy without furniture, cool dude. I’m not too far off personally lmao who tf cares what you have or don’t. I doubt money is the problem for you, and you have a valid and logical reason for NOT wanting to purchase furniture. Forget the social norms that “you’re too old to be furnitureless” … if you’re happy, it’s all you.
Solution: move into a studio. It’ll look like you have the appropriate amount of furniture

Hey there - Fellow 24M here. Have you thought about renting furniture? You can rent pieces of furniture that they install in your apartment and you keep it for 6 months or however long you decide to rent it, but then if you decide you want to move to Copenhagen or whatever next year, there's nothing holding you down.
- Win: You get an apartment's worth of grown up furniture, which will boost your self-esteem, and you won't feel like friends & SOs are judging you.
- Win: you don't have to move around with that furniture.
- Win: you can pick from a catalog of furniture rental packages that are designed to look good together, so you don't need to higher an interior designer or end up with something tacky or too eclectic.
- Win: You don't have to commit to the furniture you're renting, you get it for as long as you want.
Get a couch, ottoman, somewhere to eat (can just be a pub set), canvas for wall, and another wall decoration (I have a big clock), tv, tv stand, and then one more table or something to put some sort of hobby on (I have a spot where I put my vinyl player and speakers) this should somewhat fill up an apartment living room.
This shouldn’t be too big of an investment and it’s easy to fit in a moving truck
Get something cheap off craigslist or wayfair or something. To where the utility for a year is worth it even if you throw it out
You make enough money to not live like a 19yo broke college kid... easy decision...
Same age same way of thinking. Keep it light till you know you are settling
I’m on the same page I dont wanna invest in furniture when moving is a bitch already
It’s valid if you don’t plan on being in the apartment for long, like <6mo. Anything more you should atleast have a couch (mine was a convertible sofa bed), coffee table, bed frame, and maybe a dining table w/ chairs (it’s like $89 for that set at ikea)
Fwiw, 24F, I like my apartment minimalistic and I think about moving logistics so I have enough furniture to entertain guests, but not enough that I’ll miss the furniture if I move and how to throw it out/sell it
I feel the same way. I used to fully furnish my places but move a lot so I’d always have to go through the hassle of selling things and buying new furniture that would fit the new place. I ended up getting an apartment mate who already owned a ton, so she fully furnished the common areas of our apartment. I just own a bed, desk, and dresser. Planning to just do this until I settle down in a year or two
