Any advice on how to comfort or help out a friend who's struggling to find work after being let go last year? I've tried to hard to get them ins with whoever I know and despite that and all the work they put in applying, they can't seem to land anything and they're devastated. I don't know how to help anymore and it makes me sick.

Maybe flip the perspective a little. Don’t think of it as comforting them or feeling sorry for them. Try to be present but don’t talk about the struggle. Speaking from experience, they likely need a bit of relief from the constant worrying and job searching. So just invite them out to catch up for a drink, a walk or a coffee to take their mind off it for a few hours and make them feel valued, wanted and needed as a friend.

Don’t feel so guilty! You’ve done everything you possibly could, and gone above and beyond for your friend. You can’t change a bad job market, it is what it is. Just continue to be there for them, I’m sure they’ll appreciate someone to lean on during a tough time.

It’s not just your friend. The market has been so bad recently, a few months back I had 2 internal referrals and a LinkedIn message with the GCD, and the agency recruiters still never followed up with me. I’m on an awards streak too. I do see it slowly picking up again though with more postings in the month or so.

I have received a offer from Dubai based company of 16k AED per month. They are providing employment visa of 3 years to me. I have 3 members of family including me. I have to manage flat etc on my own after one month.

Laser eye surgery - those who have had it, how did it fit in with 16hr days in front of a screen?
